Kanye West Apparently Ends Feud With Entertainment Weekly

In the latest twist along Kanye West’s long road to redemption, the rapper/producer/art-imitates-life auteur TOOK TO HIS BLOG to humbly thank Entertainment Weekly for naming his The College Dropout as the best album of the decade, a perhaps unexpectedly graceful turn that suggests just how far he’ll go to let bygones be bygones.

Because re-producing Kanye’s post with strictly correct grammar, punctuation or ANY lowercase letters would just dilute his message, here’s a screengrab of his thank-you to EW, including a stream of shout-outs to others who put all their passion and energy into creating his acclaimed 2004 debut (and in another conciliatory gesture, a little love for sometimes-rival 50 Cent):

Is that whiplash we’re feeling? This sure feels like a 180—it’s quite a far cry from Kanye’s feelings about Entertainment Weekly back in 2008: after EW gave Graduation a B- rating, reviewer Chris Willman gave ‘Ye’s Glow In The Dark tour a B+ review and Kanye went, uh, full-on s#@!house crazy:

“What’s a B+ mean? I’m an extremist. It’s either pass or fail! A+ or F-! You know what, fuck you and the whole fucking staff!!! I know I shouldn’t dignify this with a comment, but the reviewer threw a jab at all the artists. I just wanna know when was the last time you enjoyed yourself. If you can’t have fun and lose yourself at this tour it’s a good chance you’re a very miserable person. I actually feel sorry for you guys. Your job forces you to not have fun anymore… You don’t know shit about passion and art. You’ll never gain credibility at this rate. You’re fucking trash! I make art. You can’t rate this. I’m a real person. I’m not a pop star. I don’t care about anything but making great art. Never come 2 one of my shows ever again, you’re not invited and if you see me…BOW!!”

See, all Kanye needed was a little encouragement—and the acknowledgment that he’s at the very top of the 00s heap. We bet West would even give free tickets to EW’s staff to his upcoming tour, if, sigh, only there was one.

Still, even without a tour and despite (or because of) all the drama surrounding him this year, Kanye was still named Billboard’s Top Male Artist of 2009 (ironically alongside Taylor Swift, of all people). We’re looking forward to his thank-you notes for that honor, and even moreso for his latest #1 ranking.

Community Recap: Come, All Ye Faithful

To quote dean Pelton, it ’tis the season, people! And at a stridently secular place like Greendale Community College, that can only mean one thing: a tasteful potpourri of jokes designed to please every race, color, creed, and brow (high or low). In fact, it’s hard to imagine anyone being angry at this week’s episode of Community — except maybe Billy Joel.

The A story pits Jeff against Greendale’s moustachioed, sleeveless school bully, who miraculously appears this week, hoarding cookies, taunting Abed, and disrupting Spanish exams, despite, y’know, not ever actually having been seen before. Said bully has veins that pop out of his neck when he growls actually-pretty-funny things like “that did not even make allergic sense!” If you’re like us, it was around this point where the tickling sensation in the back of your cerebral cortex finally went into overdrive and it hit you: Hey — that’s Anthony Michael Hall! Which can only mean one thing: GRISWOLD REUNION!

Except, uh, the writers really dropped the ball on this. Chevy Chase and the Piscopo-esque Hall (muscles, we’re talking, not laughs per minute) share almost no screen time. What’s up with that?!? There are no memories of Wally World, no one calls Pierce “honky lips” — heck, there aren’t even any inside-jokes about “optional rally fun packs.” We are so upset about this we are ready to demand our old car back. Immediately!

Still, not all is lost. Despite the writers’ room being temporarily highjacked by Sawyer from Lost (“No Sleeves,” “Forehead” — enough with the nicknames already!) this “fight the bully” scenario actually leads to some prime material, from Britta pointing out how gay all of this macho posturing is to Pierce’s delightfully casual racism, and best of all, Troy’s fight lessons. Now, we’ve been hard on Troy — and comic wunderkind Donald Glover — around these parts. We’ve often found him (like the show in general) to be somehow both over-energetic and underwhelming (like: stop trying to impress us, Donald — you got the part) but credit is due for his work this week. From his slow headshake indicating he has no idea who Billy Joel is (funny!) to his looooong-drawn-out inability to find a word that starts with “fiiigh” but isn’t actually “fight” (very funny!) to his Miyagi-esque instruction of the “Forest Whitaker eye” (actual LOLs!) Troy consistently killed it.

The B-plot was in trouble from the start, since it focused on Shirley (pictured here). Still, the writers seem to be catching onto the character’s limitations, finally locating the soul-scraping insanity lurking just behind those sweetly bugging eyes. Shirley, you see, is very Christian and wants everyone to not only wear her homemade WWBJD bracelets (What Would Baby Jesus Do — we don’t know? Not sleep through the night and cry a lot?) but also attend her Christmas party. This leads to the amusing reveal that every member of the group worships a different God: Annie is Jewish, Britta is atheist, Abed is Muslim, Troy is Jehovah’s Witness, Pierce is either Buddhist or in a cult (Troy: “What else do you believe in? Blood transfusions?” Troy!) and Jeff is agnostic, “the lazy man’s atheism.”

Anyway, Shirley is very controlling and doesn’t want anyone fighting or, really, participating in any way with her replacement-family Christmas party. So while Jeff is attempting his best Forest Whitaker face on Anthony Michael Hall (whose life, by the way, “is a gym”) the rest of the group is stuck singing gospel songs about a Jesus that they don’t even know. (For the record, our favorite Forest Whitaker face can be seen here. This is also our favorite Forest Whitaker hair-decision!)

But the nondenominational holiday spirit comes to everyone when the Study Group teaches Shirley to appreciate diversity (or at least the value of a good novelty candy cane to the head) and they all throw down with Rusty Griswold’s amusingly shirtless, capoeira-trained “fly dancers” in a ludicrously over-the-top slow-motion fight scene.

Lessons learned? Not really. But the gang that passes Spanish together also bleeds together, apparently, and we’d be lying if we claimed our secular hearts weren’t warmed by the semi-sappy finale. We’re off to the family tent to try and find a chicken for Jeff to chase, so why don’t you all chime in with your thoughts below. Community returns with new episodes — and a new semester — in January. Until then: Merry Happy to one and all!

Expect great things from "The Lovely Bones," adapted from Alice Sebold's 2002 novel by Peter Jackson (who also directs) and his partners in crime Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Saorise Ronan (pictured below) stars as a young girl who is murdered by her neighbor, a serial killer, in 1973. Much of the tale is set in the afterlife, with the murdered girl observing as her family grieves and the killer prepares for his next victim.

First Look: Tori Amos, ‘A Silent Night With You’ (Live)

A couple of weeks ago we got to see a new music video of Tori Amos performing the song Pink & Glitter from her new holiday album Midwinter Graces and today we learn that she has released a new single, A Silent Night with You, from the album. Here is our first look at the single artwork:

According to Undented, this single is available as a digital download in the UK and comes complete with two b-side tracks, live versions of the songs Pink & Glitter and Jeanette, Isabella. Thus far this digital single has not been made available here in the US but I’m happy to know that Tori is doing all she can to promote her amazing album Midwinter Graces. No one does Xmas like Tori Amos.

Using Band-Aid 20 Money, Bob Geldof Opens School in Ethiopia...

Sir Bob Geldof fought back tears as he visited Ethiopia on a recent trip to open a school funded by the profits of his 2004 BAND AID 20 record.
Do They Know It’s Christmas? was re-recorded to raise funds five years ago, with stars including Chris Martin, Robbie Williams and Will Young participating on the record.
The money raised has gone to the poorest parts of Africa, and Geldof was delighted to return to the country to open an education facility in Hagere Selam, southern Ethiopia, which was paid for with some of the proceeds from the track.

David Hasselhoff Found Passed Out At Home

An ambulance was called to David Hasselhoff’s home Friday November 27, 2009. Apparently David passed out again. The Baywatch star David has had many problems with alcohol/substance abuse in the past and has been hospitalized before. Radaronline is reporting that "Paramedics were called to the (address omitted) in Encino for medical aid. Paramedics arrived at approximately 11:51 am and later transported the patient a nearby hospital."

David’s neighbor Christian said that he saw the ambulance arrive at Hasselhoff’s home. "I asked one of the paramedics how David was doing and he told me his eyes were rolling back into his head, he was drooling and that he’d had a seizure. Erna Klum and her daughter Heidi Klum took advantage of Black Friday sales today November 27th, 2009 as they were spotted along with the supermodel’s daughter Leni. about Heidi Klum’s mother and their holiday shopping excursion here.

As a biography, Erna Klum is Heidi Klum’s mother who raised her daughter, The Body, in Bergisch Gladbach, West Germany, a city right outside of Cologne. Career-wise, Erna worked as a hairdresser, while her husband Günther, was a cosmetics-company executive. Not much has been revealed about Erna as far as biographical information goes, but we will update as we find out more. It appears that Heidi got her good looks from her mama!

Heidi Klum and her mother Edna Klum were seen taking advantage of some spicy red hot Black Friday deals in Los Angeles earlier today.

Along for the ride was Heidi’s daughter Leni. The trio of gals were spotted checking out shoe deals. My kind of girls!

In other Klum news, one on the street is that Heidi’s husband Seal has plans to adopt Heidi’s daughter before Christmas. Heidi’s father Gunther said, “Heidi, Seal and the kids have always been a happy family - in everyday life and in their hearts. Then they should also be happy on paper.”

Adam is looking no worse for wear after his AMA controversial performance. Adam’s sexy moves, which he’s saying were at least partly spontaneous, were a gamble. "Good Morning America"cancelled his appearanceafter a reported 1,500 viewer complaints came in to ABC, the network that airs that show and the annual AMAs.

Donny Osmond Wins The 2009 ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Championship

Last night, the voting public and judges of the the ABC show Dancing with the Stars decided to name Donny Osmond as the new Dancing with the Stars champion … much to my complete horror and chagrin. Now granted I didn’t watch one second of the competition this season so I’m prolly not in the best position to speak so forcefully but I cannot, for the life of me, imagine that Donny Osmond gave a more successful performance over the amazing Mya (who was also in competition on DWTS this season) … but alas, ’tis so … Osmond ended up winning the championship in the end:

Donny Osmond was declared the new champion of “Dancing With Stars” on Tuesday night, taking home the show’s mirror ball trophy in the season finale of the ABC contest reality program. Osmond, the former teen pop star of the singing Osmond family, said the show has been a highlight in a career of ups and downs. “I did it!” Osmond exclaimed. He promptly rushed to the audience and plucked out his wife, Debbie, whom he carried across the stage. Helping push Osmond over the top was the tango he performed Tuesday with his professional dancing partner, Kym Johnson. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba hailed it as “artistry in motion.” It earned the top score of the final performances. Three celebrities made it to the finale of the show’s ninth season — Osmond, Mya and Kelly Osbourne, the daughter of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. The show picks a winner with a combination of judges’ scores and viewer votes. Mya entered as the favorite, having won the highest scores on Monday’s show. Dancing with Dmitry Chaplin, she performed a jive. “I’m just so happy to have made it to the finals,” Mya said after the loss. The 30-year-old singer is most famous for collaborating on the Grammy-winning hit “Lady Marmalade” from the soundtrack of 2001’s “Moulin Rouge!” Osbourne was the first of the three eliminated. With her famous family — Ozzy, Sharon and Jack — looking on, Osbourne and professional partner Louis Van Amstel danced to a cover of Ray LaMontagne’s “Trouble.” The 25-year-old was clearly moved and began crying after her last dance. She thanked the audience and said she had “grown so much” during the show. Co-host Samantha Harris said Osbourne had become “a swan.” The finale culminated a season of good ratings for “Dancing With the Stars,” which consistently ranked as one of the most-watched shows of the fall.

HMMM … isn’t that interesting … Mya, who I understand performed consistently and almost perfectly thruout the entire competition, scored the highest score on Monday night for the last judged performance and she still lost to Donny Osmond — who, I might add, was on Entertainment Tonight (an entertainment “news” program) on a semi-nightly basis whipping up support from viewers. I suspect Osmond, who is a staunch Mormon, prolly received a lot of support from the more conservative voters as well. To be honest, I’m not at all surprised … the show is a joke. After Melanie Brown lost on the show when she should’ve won and after Lance Bass also lost when he should’ve won, I no longer have any confidence in this crappy show as an actual determiner of dancing skill. Meh. The whole thing is a farce. Ya know, I’m not sure why I care so much but when I heard that Mya lost to Donny freakin’ Osmond I just kinda lost it. I’m gonna go on the record and call this season’s result a pile of horse poop. Mya got robbed, that’s all there is to say.

Kate Beckinsale leaves her puppy alone in a closed car for hours

As many have noted, Kate Beckinsale has one of the most adorable little dogs in Hollywood. Allegedly, the puppy is a Maltese/Chihuahua mix, and most of the time he’s sitting safely in Kate’s arms. He’s very photogenic, and he’s become a favorite of the paparazzi who regularly photograph Kate Beckinsale. Last month, the photographers even caught her lifting the puppy by his harness - the photos looked like she was choking the puppy, and there was some outrage. As it turned out, the puppy was on a body harness, but it’s still a pretty rough way to pick up a dog.

Anyway, the photographers from Fame Pictures caught Kate in a new scandal involving her dog. Apparently, she left the puppy inside her car while she spent hours at a Los Angeles salon. The worst part? Kate left all the windows up and didn’t even leave him any water. What the f-ck, Kate?

Kate Beckinsale spent hours inside the Byron Tracy Salon on November 19, 2009 in Los Angeles, California while her poor little pup sat in the car the whole time. Kate also left all the windows up, no water, his leash and harness on, which could kill a poor little guy if the weather gets hot enough, which southern California is known for, even in winter. PETA might have a bone to pick with Mrs. Beckinsale once they hear about this.

This really pisses me off. I have a 100-pound monster of a dog who loves to go in the car, so much so that he even cries when I don’t take him somewhere. I never, never, never leave him in the car “for hours” and I never, never, never leave him in the car without opening a window. That’s beyond cruel - it could and would kill a dog. Kate doesn’t deserve to be a pet owner.

So for those of you who don’t like football, the next best thing on TV last night was the American Music Awards. Not for the musical performances or the awards that were given out, but for the simple mass of sexy humanity that was in attendance. I watched football. myself, but I kept tabs on the babes that patrolled the red carpet just for you, because I knew you’d want a full report.
